Day 20 of 365 "Healing Time"
“Healing Time”
Today marks one year to the day of the inauguration of the
44th President of the United States. As I reflected on
where I was and what I was doing, it is still amazing to me. Charles and I
along with a wonderful couple were in WashingtonDC. Freezing along with the other
Southerners that could not believe it could get so cold.
Well as I look back, I am proud to say I was there. I am
ecstatic that we have Mr. Barack Obama as our President. When looking at what
he has done, I am pleased with his efforts. Many of his ideas have been
curtailed by public opinion and interesting public officials and perhaps
rightly so. That is not the area I want to discuss right now.
I am a proud American that wants to be proud of her
government. It just seems to me that we allow petty things to get in our way. There
is too much noise and not enough listening. Listening to the people of this
country should be priority number one. Does that mean that the polls are
correct? NO! I have never been polled or even questioned by my elected
officials.
Attending town halls has become an almost mindless
adventure. There tends to be so much disagreement that it ends in a shouting
match and no one knows what is happening. Even if you do not like the political
views of our President, at least respect the office.
Give the man an opportunity to complete a task. He did
inherit quite a mess. We cannot even fix our own financial mess in one year,
why should the mess of our economy be expected to be fixed as quickly? We don’t
even have many people that get a vote and we have a challenging time with our
personal issues. Think of what he must be up against with an opposing party
that claims the position of “The Party of No.” Then members of his own party seeming to waiver on what they support or not.
I respect the party system we have in this country. When it
is allowed to work it works well. If you want to say no, then please give the
American people another option. Dragging feet in order to make a point is not a
very adult way to make a point. I am by no means an expert in the political arena. I am a wife and mother of eight that needs this country to be all that it can be for the lives of my children. They are more important than all of the upheaval I have seen in politics over this past year.
Both parties need to stand up for what they said they would stand
for when they were running for the office. So I say to our elected officials:
We do not have time to wait. Americans need all of the assistance from our
government we can get. This nation is hurting and we need a lot of surgery not
just a bandage. So cut what needs to be cut, add what needs to be added and let
the healing begin.
