Day 32 of 365 "Black History Month" |

“Black History Month”
After all of the years of celebrating this month I have come to the conclusion that it is like preaching to the choir. The faithful few will show up for the events and almost always you will hear the same wonderful speakers. Is there more to this month?
This is a month that should be filled with a plethora of events that include all backgrounds. A time for Blacks to be proud of their heritage and show it by showing up to learn more about themselves and those who came before them.
There is more to our history than the information in the textbooks. Our history began before America. The slaves that made it were the strongest ones. So we come from a long line of strength and resilience. Teach that to your children.
We come from inventors, writers, poets, great businessmen, wonderful mothers and strong fathers. Remind the world of that. Do not allow the world to define us using their narrow lens.
There is truly no way someone else can give you the pride felt when you realize who you are. The exhilaration of realizing that you are somebody. The strength to know that you can do anything and make a difference in this world.
Why would we want it to be a color blind world? We are gorgeous people. Look at me see my color. See my hair. See my lips. Then allow me to amaze you with my wit, graciousness and pride.
We are more than the beautiful color of our skin, the curves of our women’s bodies, the strength of our men’s backs, the intellect found in our minds, the wonderful way we speak. We are to be proud Black Americans. A people that has been beaten and bruised yet still standing.
Say it with me: I’m Black and I’m Proud!!!
