Day 44 of 365 "Thinking"

Day 44 of 365

“Thinking”

How many times have you been alone and just began to think? Sometimes thinking can be productive and other times you wonder where has the time gone and what have I been doing? As we get older there seems to be less time to think.

So as adults how do we fit thinking into our busy schedule? I am not talking about the analytical thinking we find ourselves doing at work. I am delving into the arena of critical thinking. A place we as a society seems to have forgotten exists.

Our thinking these days seems casual and very informal. Critical thinking allows us to deliberately evaluate the quality of our thinking. One of the wonderful facets of this type of thought is the question, “Why?” Why do you feel the way you feel? Why do you have the behaviors you exhibit? This avenue of thinking will allow each of us to take charge of our thinking versus being swayed to and fro by the societal winds of change.

Some attribute of a critical thinker:

• asks pertinent questions
• assesses statements and arguments
• is able to admit a lack of understanding or information
• has a sense of curiosity
• is interested in finding new solutions
• is able to clearly define a set of criteria for analyzing ideas
• is willing to examine beliefs, assumptions, and opinions and weigh them against facts
• listens carefully to others and is able to give feedback
• sees that critical thinking is a lifelong process of self-assessment
• suspends judgment until all facts have been gathered and considered
• looks for evidence to support assumption and beliefs
• is able to adjust opinions when new facts are found
• looks for proof
• examines problems closely
• is able to reject information that is incorrect or irrelevant

(Ferrett, S. Peak Performance (1997))

So along with our love for the Lord, let us become critical thinkers. His wisdom and love will be spread through the Kingdom on the wings of great thinkers. Think!!!
