Today our churches are having events, conferences, seminars and fun activities geared to help church goers when a need has been seen by the leadership. I am sure everyone that has ever been on a planning committee of one of these activities can relate to what I am about to say. We meet, plan and formalize a plan. We get excited because this is the event everyone that we promoted it to said was needed. On the day of the event you have only a small sampling of fellow members attend.
Many times fellow members complain about the church and what it is not doing or what program it does not offer. Have you participated in any of the planned events in your chosen place of worship? Have you placed any ideas in the suggestion box? Have you attended events that relate to you and your family on a regular basis? I would encourage every Christian to get involved in the ministry you have chosen to be a part of, and be of assistance to get it to where God wants it to be. Do not let the planners of the events be disappointed because of a low turnout. Be there to learn or perhaps even help out when necessary. We must attend events that involve every ministry or board within the church and not just the ministry or board we are a part of.
Once we become engaged in the “culture” of our chosen place of worship we can help effect the Kingdom of Christ. That is what each of our events should be about, the building of the Kingdom. That should be our focus. The salvation of the lost and the uplifting of those that have already begun to live a life for Christ are an important part of our Christianity.
Also, let each of us be a sounding board for other members of the church. Let's not pass judgment when a fellow member of the body is hurting. Mature Christians of the congregation should be willing to be a counselor for the young people. Women, do not let our teenage girls have to go looking for love with no direction, instead allow them to be able to come to us with questions and concerns. Once they come to us, let us be able to address the concern with the love and wisdom of the Lord. There is nothing worse than being in an interesting situation and not having anyone to talk to. If the situation calls for more than you believe you can address, direct the youngster to the Pastor or another person in leadership. Then always inform the parent if you deem that to be necessary without causing the young person to doubt your sincerity. The parents may not know about the issue, so use the Spirit to guide you.
Remember it does take a village. Parents cannot do it on their own anymore, schools do not have the time to address every issue, so the church must step in and help families build warriors for the kingdom. We get our children involved in community service to build their "resume" for college. Well we should get them involved because it would please the Lord. If we would focus more on what pleases the Lord, we would move with the will of the the Lord on our side. Remember, God plus you is always a majority. |
