The Last Day of 2009
This is the last day of 2009. The end of one decade and the
beginning of another. I have been giving much thought to what should be said on
a day like today. So much has occurred. Technology has increased the speed of
knowledge and information.Wow, what a decade!!!
Some reflections: Y2K, 9/11, Katrina, First Black President,
Michael Jackson dies, an election that took forever to be decided, we all
learned what a “chad” was, a recession that many of us have been affected by,
our men and women went to war, some lost family members, many had beautiful
additions to their families, reality shows are the norm…
During the upcoming decade one of my most earnest prayers is
that we learn to care for each other again. That we not be afraid to speak, to
say hello, to give a hand when one is needed and in general just show some
compassion. Lord I pray for compassion.
There is a real need for the family unit to be strengthened
in the love of Christ. Men and women that have children need the assistance of
the community to understand that the best thing for that child is a healthy
family. One in which there is God, discipline, respect, love, kindness and a
willingness to sacrifice for the good of the family. Lord I pray for obedience
to You when developing relationships.
There needs to be more wholesome television programming that
will uphold a greater standard for our children. Broadcasters need to know that
killing, profanity, sex, fornication and any other actions against the
Christian’s belief will not be tolerated when directed toward our children.
They have their whole life to live and we are robbing them of their innocence
too early with some of the things on television. Lord I pray we have the
strength to be vigilant for our children.
Our politicians should remember they were elected to be a
help not a hindrance to the American people. Their action or inaction affects
this nation. This decade may we learn to exercise the power of our vote with
humility and honesty. No longer will we
allow elected officials to behave in any kind of manner. They must uphold the
laws we sent them to office to make even better. Lord I pray that Your
conviction will come to every elected official and allow them to stand for
Godly ideas and results.
Lord, forgive me for not praying enough, not standing up for
your Word, not being more diligent in rearing our children, not behaving in a
more Christian manner when things got tough, for not spreading the Good News to
everyone I meet. Then allow me Lord to live this life to be pleasing to You and
not men. Allow me to understand more that it is more desirable to be Godly than
to be right. Bless our President, Barack Obama and all who serve with him.
Bless this nation to be able to hold up the banner of Christ even more. Bless
Christians to stand up for holiness in the coming decade. In the mighty name of
Jesus the Christ I pray. Amen.
